Let the festivities begin

The many, many weeks of madness and preparation are finally over. The presents have been bought and wrapped and the cupboards are bulging with food and drink. Here, at the darkest time of the year, it is time to sit back and relax and catch our breath and plan for the year ahead.

The six week summer holiday season is coming to an end and September is knocking on the door. There are little signs, subtle changes, that mark Autumn’s gradual approach. The endless summer evenings are a distant memory as nights start to draw in, darkness falling earlier now.

Significant snow is rare here. Bristol usually misses most of the bad winter weather that other parts of the country gets. It can get pretty cold but very cold frosty mornings aren’t that plentiful. This morning I fling back the curtains and everything has had a dusting of frost and the sun is rising on a cloudless day.

Well here we all are yet again! After several months of build up the madness of the festive season is finally upon us. Every year we swear we will spend less and consume less but there’s always a big pile of food and drink come the day.
